Consultation services range from research to current and most appropriate market analysis, and are structured by the client’s purpose or instruction. Consultations are performed for history of ownership, clear title issues, archival or conservation, transportation, and remote site storage recommendations. Consultations may be conducted verbally or in writing, and can be tailored simply or extensively to the client's needs.

Many consultations will take on one or many aspects of a Professional Opinion of Value (POV). To clarify what encompasses the requirements or expectations of the POV, please note the following summary of details of the POV as published by the Appraiser’s Association of America:

The POV may be a written or verbal assessment derived from in person or through secondary materials (such as a photograph or digital image) that will result in an estimation of value based on the information provided for the consultant. Other situations that may require a POV: pre-sale estimates from auctioneers, initial consultations with clients, and internal review of appraisal documents for third parties such as insurance companies, et al. Under these circumstances, it is assumed that the appraiser does not have the required latitude under the expected conditions in comparison to appraisals in the areas of time for inspection, research, and current examples in the most appropriate marketplace.
